Oiva Toikka Signed Art Glass Table Lamp Model N443, Nuutajärvi Finland, 1960s
-
Description
A very rare art glass table lamp by one of the leading art glass designers in Finland, the late Oiva Toikka, who was world famous, especially for his bird sculptures. The lamp is made of the art glass vase no. N443 that is mould blown and signed Nuutajärvi Notsjö, topped with a brass lamp base and a cardboard shade that seems to be of a later date, but came with the lamp and suits it exceptionally well. The art glass piece is by itself rare and was only produced in 1966-67. As a lamp, it is much rarer.
Oiva Toikka (1931-2019) was a Finnish master glass designer and ceramist, working for Arabia Oy and Nuutajärven Lasitehdas. Toikka produced some of the most iconic designs in Finnish glass history. He was known best for his variety of glass birds. His distinct style is very vibrant, colourful and playful. For his long standing career and efforts as a glass designer, he was recognized with the Pro- Finlandia Award, Kaj Franck- Award and the Prince Eugene- Medal. His works can be found in museums and private collections worldwide. -
