Description
Oscar Torlasco’s work for Lumi represents a distinctive approach to lighting design, blending precision engineering with sculptural aesthetics. This floor lamp, designed in the 1960s, is a prime example of his innovative vision.
Design
A structured composition defines this piece. Three adjustable spherical shades, crafted in enameled metal and stainless steel, sit atop slender rods anchored to a circular base. The interplay between the polished metal and the soft matte finish of the enameled surfaces creates a striking contrast. The careful placement of perforations in the metal ensures a subtle diffusion of light, contributing to both functionality and atmosphere. The construction, executed with meticulous attention to detail, showcases Lumi’s dedication to quality materials and craftsmanship. The design captures the essence of mid-century modernism, balancing industrial precision with an elegant, almost futuristic aesthetic.
Torlasco’s designs remain sought after for their ingenuity and timeless appeal. This lamp is a strong representation of his ability to merge form and function, demonstrating a clear understanding of both technical and visual composition.
Condition
The lamp shows signs of age with patina on the metal surfaces. Wear on the enameled finish and oxidation on the base add character without compromising the structural integrity. -
