Pair of French Tôle Two-Light Sconces with Ostrich Plume Motifs, circa 1890
-
Description
A pair of French Louis XVI style tôle two-light sconces with ostrich plume motifs from the late 19th century. Each of this pair of French sconces features an exquisite grouping of ostrich plumes, flanked with two scrolled arms. Each arm is adorned with a delicate acanthus leaf on the scrolling section, and supports a lovely flower-shaped bobèche with twisted socket. With its ostrich plume motifs, so highly reminiscent of Marie-Antoinette's taste for extravagant "poufs" (decorative headwear for the lack of a better word) adorned among others with plumes, this pair of French tôle sconces circa 1890 will bring a touch of elegance to any wall. The pair has been rewired for the US.
