Description
Designer: Rudi Stern and Don Chelsea
George Kovacs
USA - Circa 1970s
Dimensions: 72.25" H x 14" W x 14" D
Condition: Very good vintage condition.
A rare red neon and brushed aluminum floor lamp by Rudi Stern and Don Chelsea for George Kovacs, circa 1976. This dramatic Postmodern floor lamp functions as both a torchiere up light and a red neon sculptural statement. Both lights can be used together or separately. Independent knobs for each light: on/off for the red neon and dimmer for up-light. The neon gas is housed in a red glass tube and the red color remains even when the lamp is turned off. We have never seen an example of this lamp in brushed aluminum rather than the expected black coating. An even more dramatic effect is created with the glow of the red neon on the silver aluminum. The simple 4" square aluminum column is punctuated with an angular strip of red neon which is angled and wraps its way around from one side to the other. Working condition. General wear and scratches to the aluminum base from age and use. Minor discoloration to the aluminum column. -
