Pair of Clear and Amber Rostrato Murano Glass Lamps by Toso, Italy, 2022, Signed
-
Description
Handblown pair of clear and honey amber Murano glass lamps in the iconic manner of the "Rostrato" glass of the 1940s. Each cylindrical lamp base was meticulously handblown using the same craftsmanship as the original 1940s version in one of the oldest and last remaining glass furnaces on the island of Murano in clear and honey amber pigment-infused glass with delicately and purposefully pulled glass that form small peaks around each cylindrical lamp base. This "Rostrato" method is done as the glass is cooling off. The result is a jewel like form that refracts light in every direction. This pair of lamps was made and signed by Stefano Toso (Stefano Toso was born in Venice in 1958 into a centuries old family of glassmakers and entered into the family glass works at an early age, beginning his apprenticeship with his father Berto).
Wired for U.S. use. These lamps are on display at the Gallery at 200 Lex at the New York Design Center. -
