Tall Lamp by Stewart Ross James for Hanson
-
Description
The shape of this lamp harks back to Christian Dior's enormously influential 1947 Spring Collection, "The New Look". In exagerating the female form the collection is widely seen as a symbol of modernism by generations of designers and artists. The basic forms of home and workplace were transformed by attention to that collection and what it achieved. For a very interesting discussion of that phenomenon you might want find a book called The New Look Design in the Fifties by Lesley Jackson. an interesting read it is an analysis of design in the 1950's. This lamp was purchased directly from a Park Avenue Estate. It is re-wired but otherwise completely original including the shade.
