A beautiful pair of two-tone wall lights in enameled metal and brass, Stilnovo production, 1950s.

Yellow and black combine seamlessly in this two-tone 1950s aesthetic, which boldly embraces color and daring new shapes. Depending on one’s perspective, these wall lamps may evoke austere, mounted torches or classical, evocative cups. Alternatively, their design might simply seem to emerge from the whimsical interplay of light as it travels through them when illuminated.

The yellow section diffuses a fan-shaped beam of light upward, while the small black enameled portion projects a focused ray downward toward the floor. This striking visual effect is further enhanced by small radial perforations on both shades. The two elements are elegantly united by a gleaming brass joint, creating a seamless fusion of forms. The brass accent lends a touch of refinement to these exquisitely crafted lamps.

This elegance is also reflected in the innovative mechanism for replacing the lightbulbs: the colored metal shade is hinged with a small, intuitive brass system, allowing it to open like a compass to provide easy access to the internal electrical components.
