French 19th C. Louis Philippe Mirror
-
Description
Dense, stylized vines of ivy or grapes occupy much of the frame on this classic Louis Philippe style mirror. The original gold gilt is oxidized to a deep bronze that forms a shadowy background to the thicket of leaves. Vegetal surface decoration might also reference Indo-Persian themes, consistent with diplomatic relations between France in the period. A dusting of foxing across the original mirror plate adds another layer of character to an already unique creation. View the detailed images.
