French 19th Century Large Louis Philippe Mirror

Description
A substantial Louis Philippe-style mirror from France, 1800s, with classic arched and gilded frame. The carved molding is unusually wide, showing faintly etched floral and foliate motifs under layers of gold leaf, with more recent gold finish painted on. Blushing red bole is still visible in some patches, adding dimension and a tactile effect to the metallic sheen. Large swaths of foxing in the original mirror plate have left dark clouds and a mist of crystallization in the glass, blurring the lines between abstract art and mirror.
