French 19th Century Trumeau Mirror
-
Description
Dimensions: 55 ⅜” H x 25” W x 1 ¾” D
This fantastic trumeau is a lovely combination of a piece that is equally artistic as it is functional. The oil-on-canvas painting in the top is set within the low relief carved frame, pigmented a beige-gray. Within the folk-art style painted scene rendered in organic tones like green and ochre, one observes a small villa and bridge over a river where a man is fishing. A craquelure texture in the paint and some loss of the canvas partially obscures full appreciation of the landscape. The original mirror plate–sparkling with a few crystals and spotty foxing–is surrounded in the same fashion as the painting with beaded and heart ray molding. Please view the detailed images for a closer look at this eye catching mirror. -
