Large 1810 English Regency Period Convex Mirror

Sold Sold
  • Description
This mirror comes to us from an older East Coast collection. Michael Taylor furnished three homes for this family but the mirror seems have been collected before he started working with this family. The stylized twisted rope molding is generally thought to be inspired by Nelson’s victory at Trafalgar. This motif can be seen in chairs and tables from this period. The eagle is emblematic of strength. The stylized acanthus leaves and rosettes are references to honour and victory. Mirrors of this diameter are scarce. The convex mirror plate appears to be original. Photoshop created distortions not present in the actual mirror. English Regency period, circa 1810. Convex mirror 29" in diameter. Small losses to gilding which we will repair at our expense if the new owner wishes.
