Max Ingrand for Fontana Arte Circular Glass Wall Mirror, circa 1955
-
Description
A rare and highly unique circular glass wall mirror designed by Max Ingrand for Fontana Arte, Italy, circa 1955. This exquisite and impressive circular wall mirror with cut smoked glass blades radiating from a floating circular clear glass center and with a very thick beveled outer edge. There is an embossed muted gold/brown colored paper with vine and floral motif which lays behind the central clear floating mirror plate; it is quite subtle and one can see the embellished design from an angle. The mirror shows great depth; a truly masterly craftsmanship and a refinement of design. Truly an artisan piece, hand-crafted with a discerning eye and with the highest level of skill, for which the Fontana Arte Studio was renown for.
Max Ingrand (born December 20, 1908, Bressuire, France–died August 25, 1969, Paris, France) was a French designer, glassworker, and decorator who was known earlier in his career for his studio glass and stained glass window designs. He later became the artistic director of lighting and furniture maker Fontana Arte, where he designed numerous premium light and furniture designs popular among European elites.
