Pair of French Louis XV Style 1890s Painted Wood Horizontal Shell-Carved Mirrors
-
Description
A pair of French Louis XV style painted wood horizontal mirrors from the late 19th century with carved shell motifs. Each of this pair of mirrors features a horizontal Silhouette, painted in a light grey color and accented by cream highlights. Image 5 shows the colors the best. Each mirror stands out with the simple linearity of its outer edge. Each mirror plate however, is beautifully surrounded by a molding, delicately curved in the upper section and marked in its center by a shell motif, typical of the Rocailles style developed under the reign of King Louis XV. We are here in the presence of pure elegance, with a refined yet understated décor. The glass is newer than the wooden frames. With their clean lines and subtle color palette, this pair of French mirrors, circa 1890 will be a wonderful addition to any home, perhaps placed above a pair of demilune tables, buffets or commodes.
