Beautifully ornate and intricate Sorrento Ware inlaid marquetry mirror

Sorrento, Italy,1900's

The frame is overlaid with mixed veneered panels of beautiful burr yew, olive and other woods. The pattern depicts complicated scrolling and foliage designs, interplaced with cherubs, goats, blackbirds and gryphon-type mythical creatures. The panels are bordered with highly detailed monochome harlequin pattern. This exquisite seaweed marquetry is much more refined and detailed than most.
