Description
From my own collection of fine quality antique furniture being offered is an "Impressive pair of George I Dining Room Arm Chairs" originally made to go with and compliment a matching set of authentic eight side chairs I have listed on 1st Dibs. This pair were made mid 19th century and descended through the family intact with the eight as a set of 10 chairs until my acquisition late 1900's.
Highly desirable reverse modified crinoline cross stretcher connects the two side stretchers. The curved top rail and vertical sides connects to the broad seat frame which houses the slip in seats, which are covered in gold colored silk damask. Below are front cabriole legs with a bold hand carved knee ending in a delicate and intricate expertly carved proud ball and claw foot with three tendons. A back stretcher connects the two rear splayed legs. The arms of the chairs are beautifully hand carved ending in a reeded rolled turning to accommodate the hand.
A "makers mark" is impressed to the rear of the seat frame indicating the maker;
"Geo Schulte 59 East Hampton" (see images).
I have done research, but have not identified the talented and early cabinetmaker who crafted and designed these chairs to match identically the set of 8 chairs I have listed on 1st Dibs. (See item # LU973239419302)
