Pair of Antti Nurmesniemi Lounge Chairs Designed for Hotel Palace, Finland, 1952
-
Description
This exceptionally rare pair of lounge chairs was designed by Antti Nurmesniemi for the Palace Hotel in Helsinki in 1952. The chairs were a custom commission to furnish the lobby and other public spaces of the modernist hotel interior.
The organic round seat shell retains its original black leatherette upholstery. The loose cushion is upholstered in a white wool, offering a nice contrast and adding depth to the design. The chair is resting on an X-shaped base made of black lacquered birch wood.
The chairs are generously sized and very comfortable. Please see the fifth picture of the listing to get a better sense of scale (the person sitting in the chair is 188 cm/ 6'2 ft). -
