Mid-Century American Modern Low Table or Bench by Paul Tuttle for Baker
-
Description
Sculptural low and and long coffee table/bench designed by Paul Tuttle, Michael Taylor, and Winsor White for Baker Furniture's New World Group (c.1953, USA).
Composed of an ebonized architectural base supporting a sold teak top via cylindrical brass brackets giving the appearance of a floating surface.
Though, originally designed as a bench to sit at the foot of a bed, this piece is equally well suited for coffee table use.
Early example retaining the Baker Furniture medallion (pre-New World label, as the line hadn't been fully conceived at the time).
Teak surface has been refinished, and is in excellent, vintage condition; base retains the original finish and shows light wear (scuffs and small dents, as pictured).
