Bench in Walnut by Frattini & Bettonica for Cantieri Carugati, Italy 1956

Sold Sold
  • Description
In the period 1957 and 1957, Gianfranco Frattini designed complete furniture for the, also Italian, label Cantieri Carugati. He partly completed this together with the designer Franco Bettonica and was progressive due to the sleek shapes, lightness, repeated patterns through wood connections and refined metal accents that form the material for the deeper handles.

    Design
This specific bench from that series is of course not your average piece of furniture and its apparent simplicity almost hides the craftsmanship that lies hidden in it. An expressive walnut wood that is somewhat in the blonde region within the spectrum of colors and shades gives this item its overall appearance. Over time, the patina has spread and this bench has acquired its character. Typical and what immediately catches the eye are the small tooth joints that can be seen on the corners of the drawers and are also used in the sideboards and cabinets from the same series. The mortise and tenon joints are prominent on the ends of the legs and form a pleasant combination with the prong joints. All four drawers are fitted with a black metal handle that quietly falls back into the recess after the drawer has been opened or closed. The top protrudes slightly over the edge, casting a light shadow over the corners of the drawers. Three red cushions allow you a certain comfort when taking place on this bench.

    Condition
The condition of the bench is very good with only minimal traces of use.
