Description
One of the finest 18th century windsor comb back armchairs on the market, this example boasts a scalloped and shaped crest rail over a pierced splat with Gothic tracery, flattened rails, the shaped arms supported by arrow turned spindles and two scalloped end struts over deeply saddled shaped seat, standing on cabriole front and boldly turned rear legs, joined by turned stretchers, the whole with pleasing mellow color. For similar examples, see Michael Harding-Hill’s “Windsor Chairs” – Antique Collector’s Club 2003, pages 69-71 for similar and related examples of other mid-18th century Thames Valley /comb back armchairs.
