Exceptional Art Deco Arm Chair in Blue Velvet and Maple, Northern France, 1920s
-
Description
This exceptional armchair was produced by a master cabinetmaker in Northern France in the late 1920s. The chair was designed for a private residence in the Roubaix region. The different angles and shapes of the chair make this a highly original and striking design of the Art Deco period. The design is marked by the slightly tilted positioning of the chair and the specific carved shapes of the front and back legs. The angular lines of the entire wooden frame emphasize the overall silhouette of the chair. The upholstered parts in two different colors and fabrics also highlight the cubist inspired forms. The frame is in solid dark maple wood. The frame has been completely restored and refinished. The chair has been fully reconditioned and newly upholstered in an abstract patterned blue chenille velvet by Gisbert Rentmeister. The subtle gold yarns in the weave of this fabric are repeated in the mustard yellow Larsen fabric used for the back. Brown Houlès braided trim detail throughout.
