Description
Fine set of elegant design. The rectangular wasted backs with gadrooned crest rails, centered by a recessed painted English crest, the solid seats with a circular recessed panel, raised on ring-turned tapered legs.
The crest of a boar was used by many British families, many of which came from Scotland and Ireland. Prominent families using this crest included Guinness, Hammond, Fitzgerald, Vere, and Bacon. However, the most likely candidate family for commissioning these chairs were the Boscawens of Cornwall, who were related to the ancient West Country family of Albalanda who also used this crest. -
