Lounge Chair Model 849 By Gianfranco Frattini For Cassina, Italy 1950s

Description
Lounge chair model 849 by Gianfranco Frattini for Cassina.Awarded the famous ""Compasso d'Oro"" in 1956 and one of the Italian designs that has withstood the test of time very well. The model 849 lounge chair from the hand of the Italian master Gianfranco Frattini proofs that it is possible to be more relevant than contemporary designs 67 years after its introduction. It is a chair that is sometimes confused by some with a Danish design. For Italian design standards, this Frattini design is definitely on the other side of the spectrum due to its minimalistic features. The walnut frame looks sleek and robust at the same time. This is because the front and rear legs are optically pressed against the floor because they remain at such an peculair angle. The armrest then descends relatively steeply. This way of constructing the frame is also characteristic of many Cassina designs and radiates a smooth dynamic. Futuristic almost. Draped over the frame is the spacious seating area with generous armrests that protrude over the wood like wings. This has been reupholstered in a high-quality gray herringbone upholstery with different accents. At the front of the seat we see that it is held off the frame with two cylinders and makes it look like it is floating. The opposite direction of the seating area in relation to the armrest results in a pleasant sitting comfort. The support of the lumbar region also plays a major role in this. The original Cassina logo adorns the inside of the frame. Apart from a single scratch and color difference on the frame, this chair is in very good condition."
