A rare pair of iconic Distex lounge chairs by Gio Ponti for Cassina, Italy circa 1950s. Model 807 designed in 1953. The Distex model armchair with its beautiful ergonomic design and dynamic sculptural lines was first presented at the X Triennale in Milan in 1954. The Distex chair encapsulates the radical vision of Ponti’s postwar design aesthetic. These chairs are fully restored and newly upholstered in a plush durable 100% wool velvet fabric. The fabric chosen is in hommage to Ponti's iconic two tone color combinations. Upholstered in a sophisticated muted blue-green wool velvet on the seat and back and an off white colored wool velvet on the arms. Tight seat and back with new foam throughout. The solid beech legs have been refinished in a dark stain. Photos of the interior structure showing the age of the chairs prior to upholstery are available upon request.
