Description
Elegant and rare curved sofa "Model 450" designed by Illum Wikkelsø for Aarhus Polstermøbelfabrik in the 1960s. Denmark.
This important sofa shows an impressive curved shape perfectly proportioned in his length and height and sits to the floor on six tapered teak legs.
This sofa in mint condition is ideal for a centerpiece in a living room or a bedroom. The combination of the curves and the wool bouclé fabric from the French house Élitis create a beautiful look perfect for any sophisticated interior decor and environment.
Danish furniture designer Kristian Illum Wikkelsø (1919–1999) believed that furniture should encompass quality craftsmanship, indulge the body, and please the eye. With his clean line aesthetic and appreciation for natural materials, he was one of key influencers of Danish design internationally during the Mid 20th Century.
Wikkelsø established his own design firm, based in Aarhus, Denmark, in 1954. He won four awards for his contributions to the Copenhagen Cabinetmaker’s Guild’s annual furniture exhibitions, and his work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world.
Original piece from the 1960s newly re-upholstered in the traditional way by the best French craftsmen, we used a high quality wool fabric and new foams.
We can particularly appreciate the work and savoir-faire of our team of upholsterers respecting the right proportions and lines.
