1960s Liceu de Artes e Ofícios leather chair and ottoman
-
Description
The Brazilian Modernist movement blended European and indigenous artisanal traditions to create new artistic forms. This extraordinary South American example has sensuous curves and an open structure using tropical hardwood. Gorgeous cognac saddle leather is draped into a sling over the frame and connected by buckled straps with perfectly placed rivets. Contrasting black leather headrest is repeated on the matching ottoman. Produced in the 1960s by the Brazil institution, Liceu De Artes & Oficios, that began in the late 19th century as an Arts & Crafts collective and education center.
