    LOUIS SOGNOT
    (1892-1970)
    French Designer and Architect
Louis Sognot trained at Ecole Bernard-Palissy in Paris and his early career was spent in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine (the furniture-making center) district of Paris, From 1920 to 1930 he managed Primavera, the decorating studio of Au Printemps department store. His designs for the boudoir and bedroom for Primavera's pavilion at the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes, Paris, shows the influence of Cubism on his work, Beginning in 1928 he collaborated closely with Charlotte Alix and much of their joint work cannot be individually attributed, although he also designed alone. His designs included models in precious and exotic woods in a modernist style and he was a founding member (1929) of the Union des Artistes Decoroteurs (UAM).

Sognot's works (many together with Charlotte Alix) were exhibited at Salon d' Automne from 1923 and Salon of Societe des Artistes Decorateurs from 1924, His interior design/furniture for the Maharaja ofIndore was shown at the 1930 Salon d' Automne.

From 1929 he was an instructor at Ecole Duperre and later also taught at Ecole des Arts Appliques a I' Industrie and Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs. He became artist director at the latter in 1947.
