Ludwig Mies van der Rohe Barcelona Daybed for Knoll International
-
Description
The Knoll Studio Barcelona Daybed is an iconic design by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. In 1929 Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was asked to design the German Pavilion for the World Exhibition in Barcelona. He created a beautiful whole in which the Barcelona Chair and Footstool were central. The success of this furniture was followed by a lounger in 1930 to complete the series. As with the chair, the daybed is characterised by a high degree of detail. Each of the 72 pockets are hand seamed and buttoned, all from one piece of top quality leather. The comfortable cushion is intertwined with leather straps with the steel frame in polished chrome. The platform on which the cushion rests is made of wood. The original price tag is still on. More pictures on request.
The piece depicted and currently in our collection has beautifully patinated black leather upholstery all in very good condition. -
