Pair of Signed Marcel Breuer Wassily Lounge Chairs Stendig Made in Italy 1960s
-
Description
Designed by Bauhaus legend Marcel Breuer, these iconic chairs were made by the collaborative efforts of Stendig and Gavina during the mid to late 1960s. Stendig was not always just an importer and, for a time, had the exclusive manufacturing rights to many pieces iconic today in collaboration with Gavina. In fact, the "Model B3" name was born of this partnership, and Knoll simply kept it when they bought Gavina in 1968.
These chairs are of very high quality, consistent with Gavina and Stendig manufacturing standards. Made of a tubular chromed steel frame, the panels are of thick saddle-grade leather. Notice the hex screws holding the frame together. and the tautness retained by the leather since its production over 50 years ago.
Provenance: From the estate of a New Jersey collector of mid-century decor. Many excellent designer and decorative pieces throughout this time capsule home.
Condition: I have performed a light restoration on these chairs that includes and intensive polishing of the chrome frames by hand. Original leather has been cleaned and nourished with leather conditioner. Leather is sturdy yet very comfortable and has tons of life left in it. All original frame-connecting hardware and leather stitching intact. Minor signs of age-related use, however, in exceptional condition for the age of these chairs. - More Information
