    Ruhlmann pair of "elephant" club chairs (#1737)
    French Art Deco pair of club chairs by Ruhlmann, 1931, in leather with solid macassar ebony feet. One chair branded Designee Par Ruhlmann. 41” wide x 34” deep x 36” high. This model was presented at the Paris Colonial Exposition in 1931.

    The six-month Colonial Exposition was designed to provide a forum for the discussion of colonialism and to display the diverse cultures and immense resources of France’s colonies (at the time). And the salon furnished by Ruhlmann later became fhe office of the French Statesman, Louis-Hubert Lyautey. See photo.
