Description
New York, ca. 1785-1800.
Mahogany, birch and ash rails (seat frame).
Condition: Restoration to the ends of both front feet, otherwise in fine condition.
This pair of chairs has all the distinct features found on shield-back chairs made in New York. The shield-back molded frames and, splats with carved drapery swag designs with central plumes are typical features. The slightly bowed upholstered seat frames are supported by carved, reeded, tapered legs ending on spade feet. -
