Pair of Upholstered French Armchairs, France 1930s

$ 11,875
  • Description
    The 1930s were marked by a fusion of modernity and elegance, emphasizing luxury, geometric forms, and comfort in furniture design across Europe. Before giving way to mid-century modernism and its focus on function over form, Art Deco pieces coupled geometry and craftsmanship to arrive as elegantly impressive additions to their interiors.

    These armchairs epitomise the lavish yet functional design principles that characterised the Art Deco period. The chairs feature rounded, voluminous bodies and plush, generously padded seats, creating a bold and inviting silhouette. The design is curvilinear, with flowing contours that soften the structure, giving the armchairs an approachable and relaxed feel. The upholstery, a textured beige fabric, contributes to the pair’s overall plush aesthetic, offering soft tactile comfort that enhances its inviting nature. The clean lines of the chairs are complemented by the rounded impression, making it an excellent balance of timelessness and functionality. Fulfilling the fundamental design principles of exceptional sitting support, the backs are subtly tilted for comfort. Quality craftsmanship was evidently of importance for the cabinetmaker who created these chairs. The short wooden feet give the pair the needed support, while ensuring that the eye is rather drawn to the chairs' bodies, complimenting but not overpowering.

    These armchairs not only embody the Art Deco movement’s focus on luxurious materials and sophisticated forms but also serve as a symbol of the period's merging of utility with grace. The design invites its user to experience comfort, while the elegant fabric choice and subtle detailing bring refinement to any space.
