Description
This one-of-a-kind chaise is finished with a colorful blend of burnt umber and fuchsia lacquer and silver gilding. The frame, back, and pillows have been reupholstered in a grey split cowhide. A rope system adjusts the angle of the back. Powell typically drew inspiration for his designs from his travels abroad; this piece may have been influenced by objects he encountered in India and Northern Africa. The piece was originally designed and produced for the Bermans of Allentown, PA. The chaise is signed on its frame, “Phillip Lloyd Powell Made for H. Berman, Allentown, PA.”
