Description
A rare pair of Pierre Paulin sofas, labeled and upholstered in their original fabric, belongs to the ABCD series, which was designed in 1968 for Artifort.
These sofas, manufactured in the early 1970s, are not only exquisite in design but also completely original and in perfect vintage condition, comprising three separate segments, each defined by its gracefully undulating curves. Paulin's ingenuity shines through in the slightly declining curved seats, which feature individual fiberglass seat shells. These shells not only contribute to their unique sculptural appearance but also provide unmatched comfort, granting each user their private and cozy space.
One distinguishing feature of this rare first edition is its metal caster-mounted base. Later editions of the ABCD series departed from the original design, featuring different leg configurations and a less pronounced wave-like shape. Additionally, the surface of the seats became somewhat flatter and less vibrant, losing some of the luminous charm that defines the first edition.
Pierre Paulin (1927-2009) was a visionary French designer known for his innovative furniture and interior designs. His work, characterized by organic forms and a blend of art and functionality, played a significant role in shaping the aesthetics of mid-20th-century design. Paulin's creations are celebrated for their timelessness and continue to influence contemporary design to this day. -
