Rare Windsor Comb-Back Armchair
Probably Massachusetts, possibly Connecticut, ca. 1785
Mixed woods: maple, hickory, and ash.
Over-all in excellent original condition, retaining an historic painted surface; black paint now oxidized with craquelure over red, over original slate gray.

This great, well-proportioned Windsor comb-back armchair has survived in a remarkable state of preservation. The delicate shaped crest rail above an eight spindle barrel-back is supported by a shaped rail with carved arms. The carved, shaped saddle seat is supported by bulbous turned, splayed legs joined by turned, medial stretchers.
