Description
Restauration period mahogany and gilt bronze daybed
French, Early 19th century
Height 99cm, width 195cm, depth 90cm
This grand daybed would make a fantastic addition to a traditional lounge room: framed in dark mahogany and upholstered in green and gold striped silk, the daybed is a fine work of art as well as being extremely comfortable. The bed dates from the early 19th Century in France, during the period of the Bourbon Restoration ('la Restauration'), a period associated with a return to grandeur and opulence. The front of the bed is shaped into a semi-circular form and mounted with gilt bronze decorations which take the form of swans, laurel wreaths and masks. The mahogany frame of the bed is set on tapering baluster form feet. -
