Elegant Pair of Midcentury Modern Maple Hardwood Lounge or Club Chairs / Armchairs, Model # 1651 by T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings for Widdicomb Furniture Company. The chairs embrace a sleek, low, architectural style that transformed American interiors in the 1950's. The pieces feature a solid maple frame arranged with sleek, angled out legs and with maple spindle connecting the base to the arms that allow full transparency and a view of the lush, off white, heavy cotton blend upholstery. The chairs of masterpieces of space, form and line. They are labeled on the bottom of the frames.
Additional References: T. H. Robsjohn-Gibbings was influenced by the minimalism and neoclassicism of French master designer of the 1930's, Jean Michel Frank. Robsjohn Gibbings updated Frank's work for American Renaissance in the mid-century.
