Vico Magistretti ‘Carimate’ Dining Chairs in Lacquered Beech - 1960's
-
Description
Vico Magistretti, dining chairs ‘Carimate’, lacquered beech, fabric upholstery, Italy, design, circa 1960
The ‘Carimate’ chair is one of Vico Magistretti’s most famous objects. Originally designed in red color for the ‘Carimate Golf Club’ in Italy that Magistretti designed, the chair got produced for a long time with four different manufacturers. Since Magistretti was very confident about the success of this model, he requested a patent for the construction and the joints in the year 1963.
Due to the architectural, open frame the ‘Carimate’ has a strong expression. The angular frame has two curved armrests that add a dynamic appeal. Where the frame meets the seat, Magistretti added a distinct detail to the frame.
Vico Magistretti (October 6, 1920 – September 19, 2006) was an Italian industrial designer, known as a furniture designer and architect.[1] A collaborator of humanist architect Ernesto Nathan Rogers, one of Magistretti's first projects was the "poetic" round church in the experimental Milan neighborhood of QT8. He later designed mass-produced appliances and furniture for companies such as Cassina S.p.A. and won several awards, including the Gold Medal of the Chartered Society of Industrial Artists & Designers in 1986. -
