Description
Freestanding three seater sofa with five-legged, dark stained and lacquered beech frame, front legs with brass shoes. Seat and back reupholstered in white Tibetan lambskin, back fitted with buttons. This example manufactured 1950s.
Boesen was trained as an architect, and in the 1930’s he helped introduce a new villa type within “Funkis-style", an offshoot of Functionalism, which was popular with a wider audience in Denmark. Together with Finn Juhl he furnished the first apartment on Sortedam Dossering, a street in Copenhagen, where his easy chair made of rattan was displayed in the living room.
From his workshop he designed a number of pieces of rattan and upholstered furniture, which were constructed according to his philosophy. Boesen's furniture has an organic flow and embraces the body smoothly and tenderly. It is a delight to the eye, but also is solid and durable. -
