18th c. English Black Lacquer and Parcel Gilt Japanned Corner Cabinet on Stand
-
Description
A fine 18th c. English black lacquer and parcel gilt Japanned corner cabinet on stand, circa 1760. Attributed to Giles Grendey, London; cabinet maker (1693-1780). The lacquered cabinet was most likely a stand-alone, wall-mount cabinet. The current associated triform base is in the 18th c. Italian style. The cabinet and stand were acquired from a property in Italy. The quality of the lacquer work is exceptional and still in beautiful condition. The upper cabinet works well on the stand, giving an elegantly tall and slender look and feel. The cabinet and stand have clearly been together for some 200 years or so.
