18th C. Italian Birch & Maple Wood Armoire Cabinet in the Baroque Style
-
Description
A late 18th century Italian armoire cabinet in the Baroque style with handsome, elongated bun feet. Circa 1780. This cabinet has been hand-scraped to reveal the natural birch and maple wood finish. Inside the cabinet there is one fixed shelf. The lock is original. This is a fabulous, original piece with plenty of storage potential.
The Baroque style began at the start of the 17th century and flourished through the 1750's. It followed the Renaissance period and preceded the Rococo and Neoclassical periods. The straight lines of the Renaissance were replaced with flowing curves. The Baroque style is characterized by large, heavy furniture with elaborate ornamentation, heavily carved details, twisted columns, and intricate moldings. -
