18th c. Swedish Gustavian Painted Fall-Front Desk with Brass Hardware
-
Description
A beautiful 18th century Swedish painted fall-front secretary chest from the Gustavian period with brass hardware. This secretary displays neoclassical carving such as the dentil molding detail around the top. The top opens to reveal a concealed storage compartment. There are a variety of drawers with a secret door all behind the desk surface.
The Gustavian style, named after King Gustav III of Sweden, is a restrained interpretation of the French Louis XV and Louis XVI style. King Gustav III was enamored with the neoclassical style and therefore created his own interpretation for Sweden.
