19th Century Biedermeier Nutwood Chest of Drawers/ Commode, Austria ca. 1840
-
Description
Remarkable 19th century nutwood chest of drawers coming from the capital city of traditional Biedermeier furniture: Vienna, Austria. This fresh restored Biedermeier commode was elaborately made around 1840 and impresses with an amazing grain. The incredible looking burr walnut veneer has been set in an absolute gorgeous manner to make it look like it is running down from top to the bottom like a waterfall without any interruption. In contrast to this, the extraordinary shaped pilaster strips show a crosswise veneered brighter surface with delicate inlayed maple thread frames. Standing on so-called "stamp" feet, this unique 19th century dresser provides four large, lockable drawers (all locks are still the originals) which offer a lot of storage room. A special highlight on this unique Biedermeier dresser is the artfully created top plate with its crosswise veneered edges and inlayed fan pattern in each corner. Beautiful brass applications, inlayed bone key blades in the shape of shields and a traditional hand-polished shellac finish finalize the fantastic look of this exceptional 19th century Austrian Biedermeier chest of drawers.
