Alvar Aalto (1898-1976): An architect and designer, Aalto & his wife Aino elevated Scandinavian modernism and Nordic design to international prominence. Through their architectural works and iconic furniture pieces, the Aaltos showcased a deep appreciation for nature. With an inclination towards organic shapes and materials, they softened the starkness often associated with rationalist design by adding a unique touch to their creations. Aalto’s utilization of plywood greatly impacted subsequent designers like Charles and Ray Eames, Arne Jacobsen, Marcel Breuer, and numerous others who were drawn to this material in their work. -
