Description
A mahogany secrétaire (secretary desk) made in England circa 1890. This secrétaire is topped with a broken pediment design over a pair of glass-front doors of original panes that open by working lock and key. Inside are two adjustable shelves at 12 ⅜” deep. Luxurious, blue velvet lining complements the warm tones of the wood. A drop-front desk opens to a moss-colored leather writing surface with gold tooling and is fitted with four open storage cavities, and eight drawers with tiny brass knobs. Behind the marquetry paneled door in the center is another small compartment. The base below includes a shallow drawer over two deep drawers, the interior of the right side drawer is fitted with nine compartments. All the drawer locks are in working condition and use the same key. Cleaned and polished with a paste wax, this antique is ready for your immediate use.
