French 19th Century Empire Walnut Commode

Description
A handsome French Empire walnut commode from the 19th century, circa 1850. The stunning top planks are in good antique condition with a few signs of wear. The apron houses a hidden drawer, free of hardware, using two carved grooves to open. Making up the body of the piece, three larger drawers are mounted with shield-shaped escutcheon plates and recessed turned wood knobs to operate. Only one drawer has a lock, no key is present. The drawer fronts showcase the unique grain patterns of the walnut, over 150 years of everyday use have left signs of wear on the facade, giving it a wonderful patina. Columnar pilasters on each side are emphasized with brass capitals and bases in Neoclassical designs. Cleaned and polished with a French paste wax, ready for your interior.
