Description
A French early 17th century large scale period Louis XIII walnut armoire with two doors over two drawers, geometric décor and original hardware. With this piece, we are in the middle of the reign of King Louis XIII (the original creator of Versailles and father of the future Sun King), that sees the birth of a new form of furniture, the armoire. In perfect tradition with the Louis XIII period, this armoire features a large cornice sitting above two nicely carved doors with raised geometric motifs (' en pointes de diamants'). The lower section comprises two drawers resting on an oversized beveled plinth. The ensemble is raised on four bun feet. With its great patina and scale, combined with a linear silhouette accented by the excellent carving, this French Louis XIII walnut armoire, circa 1620 will be a definite focal accent in any room.
