Description
A French mid-18th century Louis XV period walnut longcase grandfather clock from the Rhône Valley. This French tall walnut clock features a rectangular head topped with a bonnet pediment surmounting a rocaille motif. The face is made of a combination of gilt metal adorned with various scrolls, and a pewter ring and medallion. Traditional and Roman numbers indicate the hours and minutes. The linear body making up the rest of the clock is gracefully accented by a lovely bulge on the belly, decorated with skilfully carved motifs. The base, also carved, is raised on four bun feet. With its elegant Silhouette, combining clean lines and discreet curves, along with its warm walnut patina, this French 1760s longcase clock will enliven any space beautifully.
