Geometric Writing Desk / Sideboard in Walnut and Brass, Italy, 1950s

$ 10,500
  • Description
    This geometrical writing desk has a sleek symmetry. This is formed by two large, rectangular storage compartments, together with four smaller compartments above. In between the compartments is an open space, intended for a chair.

    This desk has both staggering and protruding parts which give this dignified piece a somewhat playful character. Striking is the work of lines formed by the geometrical shapes in the construction, beautifully accentuated with elegant inlaid rods of brass. Take some time to really observe it and you will find an interesting interplay of lines, shapes and open spaces. Very distinct.

    The materials for constructing this piece, the lacquered walnut with beautiful grains in it, and the colorful brass, are well chosen. Together with the geometrical shapes these materials give this writing desk, next to its playful character, a luxurious appearance.

    The top of the desk is in excellent shape, well lacquered, shiny. This desk is ready for use and inviting you tot take place behind it. We were so lucky to find this piece in the business district of Milan. Probably once intended for a politician or director to sign important documents on, it can now be yours.
