Description
Six-drawer sideboard in veneered wood and stained beech. Italian manufacture, Cantù, 1950s.
With its decorative two-tone finish, this gracefully proportioned sideboard exemplifies the refined craftsmanship achieved by Cantù’s Italian workshops in the 1950s. In perfect harmony with the style of the period, the piece is supported by four black lacquered legs with elegant, sinuous curves. The unique way the legs are joined to the structure creates the impression that the cabinet is almost floating, offering a delightful visual effect of lightness.
A hallmark of Cantù’s production is the meticulous attention to detail in the selection and use of materials. The front of the cabinet features a sequence of veneers in various shades, arranged vertically. The result is a striking contrast of light and dark tones, showcasing both sophistication and character. The cabinet’s body consists of six drawers, making it suitable for a bedroom or dining room. Particularly eye-catching are the sculpted handles that open the central pair of drawers. These large, wooden handles have a distinctly plastic volume and stand out as sculptural elements, playing a key role in the aesthetic success of the piece’s design.
The sideboard has been professionally restored and is ready to be placed in any interior.
