  • Description
    French Art Deco cabinet by PIerre-Paul Montagnac (signed) in Brazilian rosewood with silvered bronze mounts. This cabinet was presented by Montagnac at the 1932 Salon des Artistes Decorateurs in Paris and is pictured in the portfolio from that exhibition. It is 84" wide x 16" deep x 72" high and is signed on verso.

    French painter, architect, decorator and furniture designer, PIERRE-PAUL MONTAGNAC worked equally in the fine arts and the applied arts.

    Montagnac's work was first shown at the Salons in 1912 and his paintings were exhibited at the 1920 Paris Salon d'Automne, where he was awarded a traveling scholarship .. From 1918 he worked for a time in the atelier of Andre Mare and from 1922 he collaborated with Maurice Dufrene at La Maitrise in Paris and furnished the studio with his furniture models. He exhibited internationally at Barcelona and Leipzig. At the pivotal 1925 Paris Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes he designed a reception room and supplied furniture for the Grand Salon for the French Embassy. His furniture in limited editions was produced by Fontaine and he designed a number of offices, stores and apartments. He also received the commissions to do several suites on the 1931 oceanliner Atlantique, 1935 Normandie and Pasteur.

    From 1930-38 Montagnac was president of the esteemed Societe des Artistes Decorateurs. ln 1937 he organized and participated in the SAD's pavilion at the Paris Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne. in 1947 he became president of the Salon d' Automne.
